Bill Richards
Marathon Trust
This charitable fund held within Athletics Canterbury is devoted to improving the standard of longer distance running, especially marathon running, in our region.

Aimed at those runners both new to or on the journey towards running a marathon the next of these interactive sessions will be held on in early 2026. Stay tuned for more details soon.
We are delighted that Matt Ingram and Oska Baynes have agreed to facilitate this session covering, amongst other things:
An overview of training assistance devices ie smart watch, watch info, Strava info and the validity of this info. Other training devices, threshold testing in the lab and within a session.
The short history of shoes, where they have got to now, the key changes over that time, and the future. Shoes for different types of runners ie pronators etc.
While you can just turn up for the session it is always good to know in advance roughly how many chairs to organise etc. If you are interested then can you please give us your name via this form.
Are you a Cantabrian distance running talent? Money can assist but to be truly successful, you need great knowledge and a team of support behind you. We can help you achieve your athletics goals.
Canterbury registered runners (i.e. part of an Athletics New Zealand Running Club) with real potential in longer distance running are invited to join us to achieve their aspirations.
HOW WE
CAN HELP
A Partnership Approach
The Bill Richards Trust has two key ways Canterbury registered athletes can gain funding.
The trust offers Development grants and Event grants while also offering coaching assistance and workshops, all in the aid of achieving long distance running excellence.

our GOAL
Bill wanted to " improve the standard of marathon running by Canterbury registered athletes " and this is what we are aiming to fulfil.
Bill Richards Development Group
If you, or a club-member, believes they could benefit from a closer association with the Trust please contact us and become part of the BRMT development group. The Trust will look to support these runners by offering them free entry to skills workshops or other opportunities aimed at helping them fulfil their long-distance aspirations.
This is open to both Coaches and Athletes.
